Within the lateral operation of lithotomy, the knife is carried obliquely throughout theback a part of this area, downwards and outwards, into the ischio-rectal fossa, dividing the Transversus perintBi muscle and artery, the posterior fibres of theAccelerator urinse, the superficial perinseal vessels and nerve, and, extra posteriorly, the exterior heemorrhoidal vessels. Its fibres passforwards on both sides of the vagina, to be inserted into the corpora cavernosa andbody of the clitoris. The Erector Clitoridis resembles the Erector penis within the male, however is smallerthan it. The Transversus Perincei is inserted into the aspect of the Sphincter vaginae, and DEEP PERINEAL FASCIA. 749 the Levator ani into the aspect of the vagina.
